LEAD's Statement on the Supreme Court Affirmative Action Ruling

The LEAD Board of Directors has a heavy heart, after learning about the decision to appeal affirmative action at the Supreme Court level. This news has saddened me deeply, as it is well-documented that such appeals disproportionately affect Black and Hispanic students. It is disheartening to witness actions that run counter to the recommendations put forth by numerous experts.

In light of these circumstances, we want to assure you that Leaders Emerging and Developing (LEAD) remains committed to supporting our students through the college admission process and assisting them in securing scholarships. We understand the importance of creating opportunities for all students.

It is worth noting that our country finds itself in unfamiliar territory, with this being the first time since the 1970s that we have faced such a challenge. Nevertheless, as a united community, it is crucial that we persist in advocating for diversity initiatives within educational institutions. We must navigate the challenges that lie ahead together.

LEAD, alongside our dedicated partners, will continue to be steadfast advocates for our students. Their success and well-being are at the forefront of all our initiatives as we approach the upcoming school year and college admission season. We are committed to providing the necessary resources, guidance, and support to help our students thrive.

We eagerly look forward to collaborating with all of our students and families, throughout the coming year. Together, we will overcome the obstacles and work tirelessly to ensure that every student has a fair chance to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
